UCCI campus gets summer cleaning
(CNS Local Life): Students and staff at the University College of the Cayman Islands (UCCI) have been working together to clean up the campus, painting the parking blocks and clearing away debris. The cleanup team’s main goal is to help create an “inviting atmosphere” for the university community returning later this month.
Dr Stacy McAfee, UCCI president and CEO, joined members of the Student Representative Council (SRC), along with Head of Student Life Donnette Goddard, for the campus makeover project. “My husband and I had the honour of working alongside dozens of UCCI students who generously invested up to three full days to volunteer to the care and maintenance of their campus,” McAfee said in a press release.
“I was humbled by their generosity and inherent understanding that if we expect others to contribute to our university’s well-being, we must first lead by example. We look forward to inviting community, alumni and all students, faculty and staff to join us during our upcoming campus beautification days.”
SRC president Philip Bartholomew called the beautification project “a great initiative in developing students’ time management, teamwork and a means of which students learn to respect school property”, adding, “We look forward to having similar projects and events that will build a community within UCCI and promote the students of this institution.”
Donnette Goddard said she was “thrilled with the students’ enthusiasm and commitment”, the press release stated. “It has been both inspiring and compelling and my sincere privilege to work with the SRC and its membership over the past few months,” she said.
