Registration opens for DG’s 5K Challenge
(CNS Local Life): Registration has opened for the 2017 Deputy Governor’s 5K Challenge, which is being held in April. This year, registration will be online for the first time to make it simple for walkers and runners to sign up for the event. The CaymanActive website is hosting registration, with full details about the DG’s 5K Challenge located on a dedicated page. Limited edition T-shirts will be available for pick-up prior to the event and there will also be early-bird prizes for the first few people who register online.
“Registration is very easy on the CaymanActive website and I urge everyone to sign up for what is promising to be our best DG’s 5K Challenge yet,” said Deputy Governor Franz Manderson.
Now in its fourth year, the annual walk/run aims to raise $60,000 for the YMCA of the Cayman Islands to build a ropes challenge course. The facility will provide an alternative to classroom-style learning in areas proven to increase self-esteem, confidence and team-building skills.
It will also give participants practical examples of ways to improve communication, awareness of themselves and others, and to gain leadership skills. In addition, the course will allow participants to overcome fears, insecurities, depression, and anti-social behaviour.
“The YMCA does fantastic work with the young people in our community so I challenge everyone to register for the DG’s 5K and take part in the walk/run, which is great fun as well as raising money for a great cause,” said Manderson.
The 2017 DG’s 5K Challenge begins at 6:30am on Sunday, 23 April at Cayman Brac Beach Resort, and at 6:30am on Sunday, 30 April at the Government Administration Building in Grand Cayman. The event is suitable for all ages and levels of fitness.
