Guest speaker inspires Frances Bodden residents
(CNS Local Life): Since June, the Bodden Town Community Policing Department (CPD) has been conducting a weekly outreach programme for residents of the Frances Bodden Children’s Home. On Wednesday, 3 October, the officers invited a special guest speaker, young Caymanian Doralee Wright, to address the residents.
“Don’t let your present situation define your future,” Wright, who works at Cayman National Bank (CNB), told the residents, encouraging them to always stay positive. “Your past can motivate you to be successful in the future,” she added, in an RCIPS press release.
After speaking, Wright was greeted by the girls, who thanked her and said how happy they were to be able to hear from someone not too much older than them, whose experiences they could relate to, the press release said.
Following that, on Friday, 5 October, the CPD officers attended CNB headquarters to participate in a short presentation organised by the bank’s president, Ormond Williams, and attended by other CNB staff.
Bodden Town CPD officer, AC Tameka Ricketts presented a fruit basket to Wright as a token of appreciation from the RCIPS. PS Cornelius Pompey thanked the bank for allowing Wright to present as part of the outreach programme.
“It’s not just about the police, but the relationship of having the community and police working together to make a difference in the lives of our youths,” Sergeant Pompey said.
Williams said he appreciated and supported the initiative as well, speaking to Wright and his staff. “I am proud that a member of our staff can be part of the police drive to assist our young people, and I hope you will all strive to do the same.”
