Pensions Board makes Brac presence official
(CNS Local Life): The Public Service Pensions Board (PSPB) is holding an official grand opening of its new office in Cayman Brac on Friday, 31 May 2019, with the event including an official ribbon cutting along with remarks from Governor Martyn Roper and Deputy Governor Franz Manderson. “The PSPB has always made having a presence on Cayman Brac a priority,” said Jewel Evans Lindsey, PSPB managing director and trustee in a press release.
The PSPB Cayman Brac office actually opened in early April and in the ensuing seven weeks, more than 100 people on the island have accessed its services, “clearly showing the community response to wanting this support in Cayman Brac”, the release said.
All PSPB Cayman Brac members are invited to the opening “to learn about their available on-island supports and provide input to the PSPB on how to continue to expand services and supports”, stated the release.
In making the decision to open the office, and considering the related costs, the board researched whether the PSPB services would be used and that “the office would provide both an immediate and long-term support and service to Cayman Brac”.
The PSPB has worked over the past two years to establish a much bigger presence on Cayman Brac, the release said, which has included the continued ongoing relationship with the District Administration office to serve the island and quarterly trips by PSPB staff to ensure that on-island support was offered to members. The increasing demand for more regular service pointed to the need for a permanent presence on the Brac.
“Even when we knew it was time to open an office to serve our Cayman Brac membership, we needed to carefully review our options,” said Evans Lindsey. “In the end we selected the most cost-effective option that was available and we have established a central location in Cayman Brac.”
The PSPB Cayman Brac office will serve nearly 700 individual members on the island, including close to 200 people who are pensioners. Based on the current Cayman Brac population, this means that nearly one in three people on Cayman Brac are members of a pension plan administered by the PSPB and when potential beneficiaries, spouses or children are linked to these members, the number served by this office further increases. In addition, based on age demographics, the number of people in Cayman Brac who can potentially retire in the coming five to ten years is “significant”.
Evans Lindsey added, “Opening an office to serve members and pensioners who have lived and worked their lives for Cayman Brac and for all of our citizens is important and it shows a commitment to the Sister Islands. This is an opportunity to give back and show that our seniors and pensioners can rely on easy-to-access service.”
The Cayman Brac PSPB office is located at 5 Dennis Foster Road and it is open Monday through Friday from 9am to 1pm.

It wouldn’t be so bad if they had given it to a young person. But giving it to a retiree makes no sense.
What’s wrong with calling Grand Cayman if they have a question on pensions. Just another excuse to use public tax revenue to create more needless jobs in the Brac.
