National Trust seeks community support for Earth Day
(CNS): In celebration of Earth Day 2016, the National Trust is looking for help from more than 300 volunteers and companies to raise awareness and collect money for its important environmental and education programmes. Volunteers will be located at 50 locations from West Bay to North Side on Friday, 22 April.
The first volunteers in the morning will be strategically located in high-traffic areas holding Earth Day banners, signs and environmental paraphernalia to remind commuters of the importance of the internationally celebrated occasion.
Subsequent volunteers will be asked to do two-hour shifts (with a limited number of one-hour shifts available for those who want to assist over their lunch time) at retail locations across Grand Cayman. The first 25 volunteers to sign up will receive a new “Rooted in Cayman” Earth Day T-shirt. The next 50 volunteers will receive a “Protect our Paradise” T-shirt.
Companies may also take part in Earth Month by hosting a dress down day on any given Friday in April. The purchase of an Earth Day T-shirt will help the National Trust achieve its mission to preserve and protect Cayman’s unique natural and historic heritage.
This year’s “Rooted in Cayman” shirt design showcases many of Cayman’s iconic environmental elements including the blue iguana, parrot, turtle, stingray, silver thatch tree and mangroves. On the back of the shirt are the coordinates for Cayman’s global location, along with the hashtag #IamCayman.
Volunteers or companies who wish to help can sign up at the National Trust website or email the Trust
