Fundraiser to support gender equality
(CNS): The Estella Scott-Roberts Foundation (ESRF) will be holding its largest fundraiser to date at the George Town Yacht Club on 5 June. Themed “Soul Train”, the event, which starts at 8pm, will comprise an evening of soulful dance music with DJ Chris Jackson.
All funds raised will go toward the ESRF 2015 grant programme, which supports non-profit organisations in line with the foundation’s vision: “Gender equality and a life free of violence for all”. The 2014 grant was awarded to the Cayman Islands Red Cross which hosted the girls’ empowerment conference, “Girls Will”.
The foundation was created in memory of the late Estella Scott-Roberts, a leading advocate for women and gender equality in Cayman for many years.
Rayle Roberts, ESRF chair and Estella’s widower, is enthusiastic about the upcoming event. “We envision Soul Train to be our biggest and best event to date as it provides the necessary funds for our grant programme,” he said.
“The vision of the ESRF is even more relevant today than ever as the local media regularly report stories relating to gender equality, domestic and community violence, and discrimination. I encourage all to come out and support us so that we can continue this important work in this community.”
Organisers are encouraging participants to dress in ‘70s attire. Music will be reminiscent of the popular TV show, Soul Train, with classics from such stars as Gloria Gaynor, Chaka Khan and James Brown. In addition, more than $1000 in gift vouchers will be raffled.
Several local fitness centres — Bliss, CrossFit 7 Mile, Life Extensions and Revolutions — will help increase awareness of the ESRF and its mission, as well as promote the event, by providing special Soul Train-themed classes leading up to the fundraiser.
Tickets cost $25 and can be purchased from Paperman’s Coffeehouse in Midtown Plaza or from any ESRF member.
