Local officials to work international games
(CNS) Four of Cayman’s local swimming officials will be taking part in the administration of two international meets this season. Adam Roberts, Tom McCallum, Michelle Bailey and Jacky Rowland are officiating at the Pan American Games and CARIFTA Swimming Championships.
Referee Adam Roberts has been selected as an International Technical Official for the 2015 Pan Am Games in Toronto, Canada, 14-18 July. This meet has a maximum quota of 40 officials for the meet – with officials from all over the world being considered. It is a significant accomplishment for Cayman Swimming to have one of its own selected from the field of highly qualified officials put forward by the various federations.
Referee Tom McCallum and CIASA Judge level 2 officials Michelle Bailey as well as Jacky Rowland will be attending CARIFTA in Barbados, 4-7 April as Technical Officials. All are competent and well-known officials around local swim meets.
The Cayman Islands Amateur Swimming Association (CIASA) President Michael Lockwood thanked the four for all that they do for Cayman swimming.
“The sport would not be progressing, and more to the point our swimmers would not be progressing, if we did not have the ability to conduct fully officiated swim meets here in Cayman – giving all our competitive swimmers the opportunity to learn the rules and to achieve official times that can be used to qualify for swim meets,” he said. “Congratulations on your selection! We are confident you will represent Cayman Swimming very well and look forward to having you share your experience and acquired knowledge upon your return.”
