Cayman to host international volleyball tournament
(CNS): Teams from twelve countries, including the Cayman Islands, will take part in the NORCECA Beach Volleyball Tournament, which will be held on Seven Mile Beach next to Calico Jacks on 22-24 April. Cayman will be entering three teams (two female and one male), who will be competing against teams from Belize, Canada, Curacao, El Salvador, Guatemala, Jamaica, Nicaragua, St Kitts, Trinidad and Tobago, USA and the Virgin Islands.
Jessica Wolfenden, Stefania Gandolfi, Ileann Powery, Chante Smith Johnson, Phillipe Deslandes and Olney Thompson will be representing the Cayman Islands.
The stakes are high for the Cayman teams following a highly competitive year 2015, in which the women’s team took an impressive gold at the Island Games in Jersey and gained 16th place overall in NORCECA 2015. The men had a tough fight against leading competitors and placed 21 out of 25.
Sponsors include the Department of Tourism, the Ministry of Sports, Cayman Islands Olympic Committee, DART, Camana Bay, Flow and Corona.
VIP tickets are on sale at the Epic Day Entertainment office at The Strand.
