Volunteers needed for Red Sky
(CNS Local Life): For the fifth year, Red Sky at Night, which is produced by the Cayman National Cultural Foundation (CNCF), will offer an evening of performing and visual arts on Saturday, 25 February. As one of the anchor events of Cayfest, the Cayman Islands National Festival of the Arts, Red Sky offers dance, music, drama, visual arts, crafts, film and food.
The event runs from 4pm-midnight at the Harquail Cultural Centre grounds.
Organisers are calling for help from the community, as Red Sky requires upwards of 250 volunteers for a variety of roles. Helpers are scheduled for three-hour shifts on event day, and may be assigned to assist as gate attendant, serve as stage hands, work with children at the craft area, help check in other volunteers and participate in the event day set up.
Additionally, volunteers wishing to contribute more to this effort are encouraged to register as an area manager, where they will be responsible for overseeing a particular aspect of the festival, including directing volunteers assigned to their area.
Area managers will commit a minimum of six to eight hours on event day. All volunteers must attend a 90-minute briefing, either on Saturday, 18 or Monday, 20 February, to learn more about the festival and to be fully prepped for their roles.
Volunteer coordinator Erin Bodden said, “Not only is Red Sky at Night a wonderful way to experience Caymanian culture, it’s also the perfect way to give back to the community and to support the vibrant performers, visual and traditional arts scene in Cayman.
“Volunteers also have the chance to enjoy the event once their shift is over, so they too can experience the excitement of Red Sky at Night.”
The event is expected to attract more than 2,500 people of all ages. In addition to local crafts and food, entertainment and artwork, members of the Astronomical Society will offer a chance to gaze at the stars through their telescopes.
Anyone wishing to volunteer for Red Sky at Night can register online on the CNCF website. For more information, call 949-5477 or email CNCF.
