Kids get to shoot for the stars
(CNS Local Life): The Shooting Stars 3-on-3 basketball tournament, set for Saturday, 29 July, will once again be the closing event for Camana Bay’s Mixed Sports Camp and Orlando Magic Basketball Camp. The free tournament, open to children ages 7-9, 10-12 and 13-15 and organised by Star 92.7 and the National Council of Voluntary Organisations (NCVO), is being held at the Arts and Recreation Centre from 8am-1pm.
“The tournament in 2015 drew more than 20 teams and 100 local players,” said Star 92.7 programme director John Watler, in a press release. “We hope with the noted collaboration of this year’s charity of choice NCVO that we will improve those numbers significantly, leading to positive competitive fun and much-needed support for the NCVO.
“Star 92.7 created this tournament to allow an opportunity for the youth to celebrate the love of the game and to engage themselves in the community in a healthy, active way with the added benefit of raising funds for a chosen charity.”
The radio station in the press release thanked sponsors of the tournament “for their dedication to the care, education and wellbeing of children and families in need of support in the Cayman Islands by staging the highly anticipated tournament”.
Renard Moxam, managing director of Star 92.7, noted the help of Department of Sports Director Collin Anglin who he said “has been instrumental in assisting Star 92.7 with proper scheduling and the organisation of official referees for the tournament.
“His experience and guidance has been fundamental to the tournament’s success and we could not thank him enough”.
Winning teams will earn gift bags stuffed with sport-related items.
