Curious about unidentified remains
Has there been any new information on the bones that were found in Bodden Town?
Auntie’s answer: It turns out the timing of your question was just about perfect because an RCIPS press release came out today discussing those very bones. For the related CNS story, see Human bones found in BT remain a mystery.
But timing unfortunately isn’t everything and the identity of those bones has not been discovered despite investigations by experts in the US, though they did determine that the remains had been buried for at least 75 years.
Let’s think about that for a minute. The unknown person was living in Cayman contemporaneously to people you and I probably know. And in the first half of the last century, the population was not only significantly smaller than today but also people interacted more then; none of this texting and messaging. In other words, you really knew your neighbour.
That makes me wonder how this person went missing and no one seemed to notice. You’d think there would have been a tale or two passed down about a Bodden Town resident who disappeared all those years ago.
It’s sad that we will never know the story of his or her life.

“At least 75 years” does not necessarily mean the person was alive during the life of people alive today. It could as easily be 100 or 200 years. Finding old burials from the 1800’s happens all the time. Worry about something else.
