Kids hoops competition to score for NCVO
(CNS Local Life): The fourth annual Shooting Stars 3-on-3 basketball tournament is set for Saturday, 29 July, at the Camana Bay Arts and Recreation Centre, with funds raised benefiting the National Council of Voluntary Organisation’s (NCVO) Caring Cousins Lunch Support Programme. The NCVO and broadcaster Star 92.7 are once again partnering to hold the event, which is free and open to co-ed teams in three age categories – 7-9, 10-12 and 13-15.
The Caring Cousins programme enables Caymanian public-school students in Grand Cayman and Cayman Brac to get a hot lunch and snack each school day.
“This is our second time at this event and it is such great fun.,” said Angela Sealey, NCVO CEO. “We hope people come out to not only watch the up-and-coming basketball stars of Cayman and celebrate them, but also to visit our booth. We are thankful to Star for once again choosing us as the beneficiary of this event and we look forward to serving participants, spectators and parents at our food stall as 100% of food sales will go directly to the NCVO’s lunch programme.”
Star 92.7 programme director John Watler said of the tournament: “In showcasing Cayman’s top young talent, the Shooting Stars 3-on-3 competition will be centred on four core values – teamwork, respect, determination and community – that will set a new standard in youth basketball development.
He added the competition will promote standards of safe play as well as camaraderie between teammates and opponents.
Registration may be done online here or on the day of the event. Space is limited with registrants accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis.
