New look for Craft Market
(CNS Local Life): On the day marking the 18th anniversary of the opening of the Cayman Craft Market, including 13 years at its current location on South Church Street, the attraction unveiled a new look. Local vendors, as well as members of the Tourism Attraction Board (TAB), which runs the market, and Department and Ministry of Tourism officials, were on hand 5 July to celebrate the occasion.
Phase one of the makeover comprised a new logo, re-painting, structural renovation of stalls, custom-designed tablecloths, directional signs, branded promotional material for vendors, and product developments such as live music and cooked food.
Tourists were also in attendance, dancing and enjoying local food, rum and music, said a TAB press release. The music included a steel pan performance, which the TAB said it would like to have on a more regular basis during the high season.
The long-term goal is to enhance the attraction as a culturally immersive experience for tourists, the TAB said, allowing visitors to interact one-on-one with local vendors, and learn about traditional Caymanian crafts and general way of life, past and present, as island people.
“Rebranding the Craft Market and giving vendors the tools to promote the attraction as one entity greatly increases their sense of solidarity and is much more powerful than promoting each other individually,” the TAB said in the release.
Towards that end, the vendors have their own Facebook Page, TripAdvisor page, Google Business Page, rack cards and business cards.
Increased seating and an expanded offering of locally cooked food will be part of the second phase of the initiative, followed by tenting and improving amenities in phase three.
The Craft Market is open from 8:30am-3pm, Monday to Friday, and occasionally until 4pm on weekdays, and on Saturdays during the busy season.
