In the fall of 1996 Rotary Central Cayman Islands initiated the first Music Extravaganza fundraiser, a press release stated. Part of the proceeds from that event helped to initiate the first Hurricane Disaster Fund set up by a community service club in the Cayman Islands. In the aftermath of Hurricane Ivan in 2004 the Rotary Central Hurricane Disaster Fund evolved into the Joint Hurricane Disaster Fund, incorporating other Rotary Clubs of the Cayman Islands.
Over the years. proceeds from the Music Extravaganza have contributed to more than 50 community projects in the Cayman Islands, including Bonaventure Boys Home, Francis Bodden Girls Home, Rotary Central Junior Achievement, Rotary Central Science Fair, Fred Spiers Inter-Schools Debating Competition, Rotary Youth Leadership Awards, Take a Kid Fishing, Literacy and Little Free Library Programme, the Cayman Islands Crisis Centre , Bus Shelter Programme, the Historic Mastic Trail renewal and the Mobi-Mat which enables beach access for people with disabilities.
