Cayman’s teachers to be celebrated
(CNS Local Life): The Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with the Ministry of Education, will honour public and private sector educators on World Teachers’ Day on Saturday, 5 October at the seventh Golden Apple Awards for Excellence in Teaching at the Kimpton Seafire Resort. Launched in 2007, the awards recognise teachers and principals in public and private primary and high schools.
The educators are nominated by their students, parents and peers for their outstanding achievements and contributions both in the classroom and at their respective schools.
Recipients will be announced during a formal ceremony and will receive the award and a cash prize. An educator who has contributed at least 25 years to education will also be announced and receive the Lifetime Achievement Award in Education.
“Quality teaching is essential to motivate students to learn and to acquire skills that will enable them to transition into the workplace,” said Minister of Education Juliana O’Connor-Connolly, in a press release. “The Cayman Islands will proudly join others around the world to acknowledge the important role that teachers play in the lives of the communities in which they serve.”
Christopher Kirkconnell, president of the Cayman Islands Chamber of Commerce, added, “Teachers contribute tremendously to our society by motivating students to achieve success in the classroom and in life generally.
“It is important to thank them and to celebrate their achievements and hard work. I encourage parents, students and educators to attend this event and to demonstrate your support for our teachers.”
Early bird tickets for the ceremony are on sale for a limited time. To purchase tickets go to the Chamber of Commerce website
