School football league targets 1,000 players
(CNS): A new football league has been created that will enable students to compete against each other in school teams, with around 1,000 players from 22 schools expected to take part. The new Cayman Youth Football League (CYFL) will take over the administration of the CUC Primary Football League, which has been running for over 15 years, and the Dart U-13 High School League, which is entering its third year. The CYFL is also introducing the CUC U-16 High School Leagues this school term, which will offer competitions to students between 14 and 16.
At a press conference this week, CYFL President Richard Hew said, “What started out as the CUC PFL with only boys’ competitions for 18 schools has now grown tremendously and continues to grow and enhance the competitions. We needed to bring more resources to bear under a proper governance and administrative structure, hence the formation of the CYFL. Mr Neil Murray, who has almost single-handedly run the competitions in the past will continue to play a large role, with additional support from the CYFL Board.”
The 2019 CUC Girls Primary Football League (GPFL) season will kick-off with the customary GPFL Opening Rally this Saturday, 14 September, at the Annex Field, followed by the 2019 CUC PFL Opening Rally on Saturday, 21 September, also at the Annex Field.
The Dart Under-13 High School Leagues will commence on Wednesday and Thursday, 18-19 September.
The CYFL thanked major sponsors CUC and Dart for continuing to sponsor the school football competitions, as well as Appleby for assisting with the development of the CYFL constitutional documents and to Estera for assisting with the company registration and providing registered office services.
The Cayman Youth Football Leagues (CYFL) is a registered non-profit organisation.
