Tennis players come back strong after summer
(CNS Local Life): The fifth PwC Junior Tennis Tournament was played in great conditions on 25 and 26 August, with the rain holding off and under a slight breeze. The first junior competition after the summer break made for excited and energised players, stated a press release. Jake Fagan won the 10-and-under division after winning a close battle against Albert Berksoy.
Berksoy, a product of The Ritz-Carlton Junior Tennis Academy, worked really hard in the second set to even the match. He fell just short in the deciding tiebreak to the more experienced Fagan, with the final score 6-3, 4-6, 10-4.
It was a classic final in the 14-and-under division. Number one seed Jakub Neveril defeated number two seed Alex Priestley 6-3, 6-3. Neveril had a walkover in the semifinals to reach the final while Priestley survived a tight match against Willow Wilkinson, 7-6, 7-6. Despite Priestley playing one more match than Neveril, this didn’t stop him from putting up a great performance in the final.
The final of the 18-and-under division between Jade Wilkinson and Jake Booker lasted for two hours as both players fought for every point. Wilkinson emerged victorious 6-1, 2-6, 6-4 in a memorable match.
The Courts Tennis Centre at The Ritz-Carlton hosted the tournament and along with the Tennis Federation of the Cayman Islands will be hosting the next PwC junior event at the end of September.
