(Auntie): One of the CNS team went into a Jacques Scott the other day to buy a bottle of wine and the staff packed it into a paper bag. CNS was told their shops no longer use plastic bags as part of their efforts to be environmentally friendly. The company should be applauded for that change and so I am giving them our first Ask Auntie Green Award.
I know there are other stores that are working to reduce their non-biodegradable waste such as the supermarkets that charge for plastic bags. However, shoppers are still given the option of paying five cents for one and I have seen enough people requesting plastic bags to know that more needs to be done.
In the spirit of recognising similar green efforts to Jacques Scott’s as well encouraging other companies to do their part to help the environment, I am asking readers to let me know who else deserves an Auntie Green Award and why you are recommending them.

If they are being so green, why don’t they have recycle bins on property? Since they have so much glass & cans would be a big help.
Last time I checked they weren’t doing anything about the bottles and cans they sell that are going to landfill
If they were really green they would take back the bottle and cans like the Liquor/Beer stores in Canada. Just sayin!

Years ago the stores always used paper bags, until the plastic bags came into use.
Blackbeards & Big Daddy’s uses reusable cloth bags. Paper bags only create a different environmental problem!
Last week when I was in Blackbeard’s I was automatically “given” a plastic bag. I checked my receipt and saw I had been charged for it without being given the option to refuse. Not once have I been offered a cloth bag.
That is total bulls$%#& as it was because the plastic bags were good bags but cost them money, so they went to cheaper paper bags. Problems is they have to double or even triple the paper bags due to the weight problem and next when the cold product hits the warm/hot air then all the condensation causes the paper bags to rip apart. It is just cutting costs for more executive bonus. This whole award smells of collusion.
Great – paper bags! Now we will destroy more trees! How ’bout mandatory reuseable cloth bags?
