A section of the boardwalk’s framework
(CNS Local Life): Work is expected to completed by the end of August on the 1,500-foot-long South Sound boardwalk, which will include a bike lane, three major beach access points and parking. The boardwalk will extend from the public boat ramp to just east of the shoe tree, a popular feature which has been incorporated into the boardwalk’s design, a government press release stated.
The project will also provide walkers with a protected path, away from vehicular traffic. Construction began in February of this year, with the Phoenix Construction Group contracted to carry out the work.
The safety fencing put up along the road side of the construction will be removed once the project is completed, restoring the view of the sea. Meanwhile, there is access to the water though the public boat ramp.

Why is this awful boardwalk being built anyway, couldn’t you just walk along the beach or am I being dim per usual? It looks like a terrible waste of money and a real eyesore (although appreciate it hasn’t been finished yet!). I just don’t see a purpose at one end you have a bush and the other a boat ramp.
It will all wash away soon. Tree and all. Who asked for a boardwalk insead of shade trees anyways?

Lets see, nail a bunch of ocean plastic flotsam garbage to a non-native invasive tree, and the government thinks that is something worth preserving. Meanwhile, native, ecologically vital mangroves are allowed to be destroyed next door.

Value for money… $1,300,000 today left in the bank would be almost $1,700,000 in ten years.

Maybe there should be a toll to come and look at the shoe tree.

BTW to those who do not know, the Shoe Tree began with single foot shoes washing up on our shores.
It was a reminder of the thousands of Cubans who lost their lives fleeing Cuba.
Others “invasive specieds” who did not know began putting pairs of shoes on our trees.

Why is the boardwalk being built around the (non-native) casuarina trees? Are they expecting the trees to outlast the boardwalk?

Where are the toilets shown in the original plans? Too often I see men peeing in the car park. The port a potty stinks.
Assume the mega million home next door objected? Ok to have people standing & peeing on your fence line but renters at $100’s of dollars per day wouldn’t want a public facility next door ?!

I remember when Cayman was known for its crystal clear waters, beautiful corals, incredible fish life and welcoming and gracious people. Have we really reached the point where a “Shoe Tree” covered with flotsam and jetsom has become a major attraction?

What is going on with the gaps in the boardwalk also? Assume they are for beach access but will be boarded over so people dont have to step off & on every 100 yards.

I can just bet those trees were there before you, ,,just to cut the natives out of camping ,cause the likes of us are not wanted near the high and mighty class,,,,,and the shoe tree is only a memo of the people who has pass through there,,,,,I’m sure lots of them visits now and then to see the mark they left behind…..next I guess they will be taking down the ramp…nothing left for us eh .dear lord .

The shoe tree is a major tourist attraction , droves of rental cars can be seen parked & the occupants taking selfie’s with the old sandals , flip flops & thongs. Not the thong you wear , the ones on your feet. Its an internet sensation , I think the tree has its own page. Now then , only thing to ponder are the occupants of the 2 mega mansions that have to look out from their $5.25 million view to look at that tree. I see a bulldozer soon ‘Malfunctioning’ in the general area of the tree, possibly 10 gallons of diesel fuel and a lighter should do the trick .
Why are the retaining walls for those two mansions right on the road? Every other property along that stretch had to have a set back & build a side walk in front of their property.
