Registration open for Breeze Fusion 5K
(CNS Local Life): Organisers of the 12th annual Breeze Fusion 5K Walk/Run, set for 3 November, are hoping to better the record total of more than 250 runners and walkers who participated in last year’s event. Radio Cayman and Breeze FM also are looking to improve on the results from the Cayman Brac leg, which was launched in 2016, and will be returning to the Sister Island for the third annual race on 24 November.
Since its inception in 2007, proceeds from the Breeze Fusion race have supported the National Council for Voluntary Organisations (NCVO), an independent, non-profit, charitable organization which engages in projects to meet the ever-growing needs of the community.
Paulette Conolly-Bailey, Deputy Director for Radio Cayman, said of the event: “Each year, along with the NCVO, two other recipient fundraisers are also selected. We’re proud to announce that 2018 will see the John Gray music department along with the Sew ‘n So club in Cayman Brac receive funds to support their programmes. It’s such a joy to be able to help the community in this small way.”
The Grand Cayman race will start at Smith’s Barcadere in South Sound, with walkers setting off at 6:30am and runners at 6:45am. Both the Grand Cayman and Cayman Brac races will cater to eight age categories: Under 12, 12-14, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59 and over 60.
Participants in the Grand Cayman event who register by 30 September will be eligible for an early bird discount. The first 300 people, as well as the first 100 on the Brac, will receive a T-shirt, goodie bag, and a participation medal. The first, second and third place overall male and female runners will receive a trophy. All participants will also get a chance to win door prize draws.
Early registration for Grand Cayman is $15 for adults and $10 for students 16 and under. Adult registration will increase to $20 after 30 September. The Cayman Brac registration is $15 for adults and $10 for students.
