(CNS Local Life): Speaker of the House McKeeva Bush is in London representing the Cayman Islands branch at The Royal Commonwealth Society’s 150th international meeting. Branch chairman Lemuel Hurlston had nominated the Speaker to represent Cayman at the three-day meeting, which began Monday, 15 October, and is being held at South Africa House and Westminster on different days.
Delivering the keynote address at the opening ceremony, UK Envoy to the Commonwealth Philip Parham outlined UK priorities as the Chair-in-Office of the Commonwealth, stated a Cayman government press release.
Also addressing the delegates were The Royal Commonwealth Society chair, Linda Yueh, and Chief Executive Greg Mundo while High Commissioner for South Africa, Nomatemba Olivia Tembo, welcomed them to the “historic meeting”, the release said.
During the first two days of deliberations, the delegates are discussing better engagement of youth in Royal Commonwealth Society programmes, which focus strongly on young adults. Additionally, they will receive a presentation on “Localising the Sustainable Development Goals and the Role of Cities” and discuss environmental challenges the Commonwealth countries face.
The last day will highlight the society’s engagement with Commonwealth citizens.
