National Trust launches “I am Cayman” fundraiser
(CNS): The National Trust has launched a social media campaign to increase membership by 25 percent and raise $10,000 to help fund its programmes. The “I am Cayman” challenge, open to anyone who considers Cayman home, will run through November.
The campaign comprises individual and corporate categories, but participants can enter both if they qualify. Anyone interested in taking part needs to complete a two-step process.
First, people need to sign up for National Trust membership either online or at the Trust office in Dart Family Park, for an annual fee ranging from $15 (for students and seniors) to $45 (for families). Participants receive an additional 10 points on their total in the individual category for referring friends and family to become members. The membership form will have a referral option.
After signing up, the next step is for the new member to share a creative photo or video with the hashtag #IamCayman on his or her hand on the Trust’s “I am Cayman” Facebook event page and Instagram, then caption the photo with why they think protecting Cayman’s heritage is important, and include a link to the National Trust membership form.
The first phase of the campaign, which runs through the end of October, focuses on the individual category, with participants achieving reward points on social media. Every time a person shares a post, the total number of “likes” or “shares” it receives will be added to his or her final score. The individual winner will be announced at the end of the month, and will receive a weekend getaway for friends and family at a first-class villa courtesy of Cayman Villas, plus a $50 gas voucher from Rubis.
The corporate category phase of the campaign starts 1 November; companies can participate in a matching membership initiative through the end of the month. Companies who reward their staff with National Trust membership by matching 50 percent of the fee for each employee will receive points for each person they sign up.
Additionally, companies can host a fundraiser for the benefit of the Trust, such as dress-down days, bake sales or online campaigns, and the total funds raised will be added to the points tally. The highest number of points earned (member enrolments plus social media reward points plus fundraising totals) will determine the overall winner in the corporate category.
The winning company will receive a farm-to-table dinner experience for 20 staff members courtesy of Cayman Cabana along with recognition in a media campaign highlighting the winning company’s commitment to protecting Cayman’s unique environment and heritage.
Danielle Watler, marketing coordinator at the National Trust, explained the importance of community involvement. “The National Trust is the only charity in the Cayman Islands preserving both natural environments and places of historic significance. We need members of the community to take a stand to help spread the word about the vital work being carried out for present and future generations” she said.
“Everything we do is for the people of the Cayman Islands and we cannot do it without the support of our community.”
