Gaelic football camp on the way
(CNS Local Life): The Cayman Islands Kids Gaelic Football Club is holding its first COOL Camp of 2019, set for 7 and 8 March, during the mid-term school break. The camp, to be held at the Cayman International School football pitch, will begin training with a basic warm-up for the players, followed by a quick game to get the young people familiar with catching and throwing the Gaelic football.
The next part of training will involve learning some techniques specific to the sport, followed by a chance to practise those skills in drills, a press release explained. To further develop these practices, each age group will participate in a short game to challenge the players to incorporate their new skills into team play, with a competitive match to close the session.
Last year, in addition to the mid-term session, the club held COOL camps during Easter and Halloween, along with events in May and June. The coaches were “very enthusiastic and excited at the talent that was displayed by some of the children, particularly those who had never even seen the sport before or had never played a team sport”, the press release said.
The sessions, which are open to children aged 6 to 14, run from 8:30am-12pm each day, and cost $70 for the first child and $35 for each subsequent sibling.
The camp will move indoors at CIS if the weather doesn’t cooperate.
Registration is limited to 70 kids and will close when that number is reached or by 28 February at 6pm.
