Swimmers set to make open-water splash
(CNS): The open-water competition season continues with the 13th Annual Butterfield 800m Sea Swim set for Saturday, 30 May. Registration will take place on race day at Governor’s Beach from 3pm-3:45pm, and the race will start at 4pm.
As with the recent LIME sea swim, this race will follow the new loop course. Starting in front of Government House, it will run north to the Great House, round the buoys and then return south – parallel to the beach – to the finish at Governor’s Beach.
This race marks the last open-water swim and competitive warm-up before the 13 June Flowers One Mile event.
Cayman Islands Amateur Swimming Association (CIASA) president Michael Lockwood thanked the event’s title sponsor and encouraged the public to attend. “Butterfield’s commitment to Cayman swimming over the years is greatly appreciated. I know that a number of Butterfield staff members are avid swimmers and I look forward to seeing them all at the start line on Saturday,” he said.
“Additionally, the new loop format is far more spectator friendly so if you want to see what open-water swimming is all about I encourage you all to come to Governor’s this Saturday for the Butterfield 800.”
All swimmers are provided with swim caps, which must be worn for safety reasons, and event T-shirts will be handed out. Trophies will be presented to the top three male and female finishers in each age group. Subway will provide sandwiches and refreshments at the end of the race.
Registration for CIASA members costs $10 for children and $15 for adults; non-CIASA members pay $5 more for either age group. Online registration is available through CaymanActive.
