Pirates, parades and prizes at annual festival
(CNS Local Life): The 41st Pirates Week Festival landed on Grand Cayman this past weekend, bringing a parade, music, fireworks, various competitions and, of course, general revelry. (CNS Local Life): The ties between the Cayman Islands and Jamaica were celebrated at a special Restaurant Month dinner on Thursday, 25 October. The meal featured a menu in which the pineapple was the star ingredient as that fruit holds great significance to both islands and is represented on both countries’ Coat of Arms.
Pirates say no to plastic
(CNS Local Life): This year’s Pirates Week Festival, which starts 2 November on Cayman Brac, is including an environmental message, with its #PiratesAgainstPlastic campaign. In addition to marking the 60th anniversary of the Cayman Islands Coat of Arms, the festival will be “Celebrating the Seas!” to raise awareness on how to reduce single-use plastics.
CCMI raffles gala tickets
(CNS Local Life): The Central Caribbean Marine Institute (CCMI) is raffling two tickets to its Festival of Seas Awards and Gala fundraiser, set for 3 November. Alexandra Cousteau, granddaughter of Jacques-Yves Cousteau, National Geographic Emerging Explorer, and globally recognised advocate on water issues, will deliver the keynote address at the event.
Dates set for National Trust fundraisers
(CNS Local Life): The National Trust for the Cayman Islands has announced the 2019 dates for its two major fundraising events – Hatitude, set for Sunday, 27 January and the Glow Run, scheduled for Saturday, 30 March. Hatitude, a family brunch, will take place at Grand Old House under the theme “Birds of the Caribbean”.
Time to enter boats for Parade of Lights
(CNS Local Life): Cayman 27 is again hosting their annual Parade of Lights boat parade on Saturday, 1 December, in Camana Bay. Individuals and businesses can both take part in the free event with participation in two categories: boats under 30 feet and boats over 30 feet.
