Veteran firefighter takes top employee honours
(CNS): Fire Service Station Officer Richard McLaughlin has been named the Deputy Governor’s Employee of the Month for August 2015. With 33 years’ experience in the Cayman Islands Fire Service, McLaughlin is considered an asset by his superiors, and a role model by colleagues.
Deputy Governor Franz Manderson noted McLaughlin’s ability to deploy staff during emergency situations in such a way that costs are kept at a minimum while maintaining organisational effectiveness.
Describing him as direct, friendly, and fair, Manderson said that the veteran firefighter demands innovation from his staff and encourages their professional development in all aspects of their work.
“It is for these traits and for being named most professional that you were chosen for the award,” he told McLaughlin.
The fire officer credited his staff for their contributions to his achievement. “Without my staff it would not be possible,” he said.
McLaughlin encourages younger staff members and new recruits to put in their best efforts at the Fire Service, and in all other areas of public sector, since individual commitment reflects the quality of collective service.
