Pensions Board celebrates seniors
(CNS Local Life): The Public Service Pensions Board (PSPB) is holding a pensioners’ appreciation event at Pedro St James as part of its 25th anniversary celebrations this year. The event, set for Wednesday, 12 April 2017 from 3pm to 9pm on the grounds of the historic great house, will feature a host of booths, food stalls, entertainment, prizes and giveaways.
PSPB managing director Jewel Evans Lindsey and her team are coordinating the celebration. “In organising the event, we are partnering with government and others to thank our retirees who make up 20 percent of our membership for their services and contributions over the years,” she said.
“An event such as this is our way of saying thank you to them and to demonstrate our commitment to their cause. Over the years, their contributions to respective governments have been nothing but stellar, it is the least we can do.”
PSPB staff will be on hand to provide information and members will also be able to get free health screenings courtesy of the Health Services Authority, along with advice from CINICO. There will also be various outreach programmes present including Meals On Wheels and other community services such as the local Seventh-day Adventist church and the Cayman Islands Lions food pantry.
Entertainment will include some local favourites: Musical group Jubilate as well as students from the John Gray High School swing band. Local artist Nasaria Suckoo Cholette will also give a poetry reading and spot prizes and giveaways will be up for grabs.
Local dishes will be served including Cayman-style beef and cassava dumplings, fish and fritters, and conch soup. Fruit platters from various supermarkets will be available as well as water and other soft drinks.
Free transportation from all the districts is being laid on for pensioners to and from the event.

A similar event is also being planned for PSPB seniors in Cayman Brac on Monday, 24 April 2017.
