(CNS Local Life): Highlighting the theme “Food for Thought: Exploring the relationship between nutrition and health”, organisers of the 2017 Cayman Islands Healthcare Conference have announced the lineup of interactive breakout sessions set for Friday, 20 October. Each “Nutrition in Action” session will feature a short presentation, followed by cooking demonstrations and an opportunity to sample the prepared dishes.

Chef Maureen Cubbon of Bon Vivant will speak on “Healthy Eating at Home” and demonstrate a quick and easy recipe that attendees will be able to cook on their own.

Brian Crichlow, Assistant Director at the Cayman Islands Department of Agriculture, will discuss the farm-to-table movement and the benefits of local produce, which will be followed by a demonstration from chefs from The Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman, where the conference is being held.

For those who would like a more hands-on experience, both Bon Vivant and The Brasserie chefs will be hosting a total of six interactive food demonstrations in the hotel’s culinary studio on Friday and Saturday mornings, offered to attendees on a first-come, first-served basis.

“These breakout sessions are important as they really show how to take the key points from all the presentations at the conference, and use them to create nutritious as well as delicious meals at home,” said Lizzette Yearwood, chair of the conference planning committee and CEO of the Cayman Islands Health Services Authority.

“The idea behind each session is to demonstrate that healthy is an attainable ideal and very easy to implement into your daily routine,” she added.

The conference, which is free to attend, runs from 19-21 October.
