(CNS Local Life): Coming off of their record-setting year in 2016, organisers of the annual Breeze Fusion 5K walk/run are seeking to exceed expectations at the upcoming 4 November event. Put on by Radio Cayman and Breeze FM, this year’s race will also include a Cayman Brac leg, which debuted in 2016 and is set for 25 November.

Since the first walk/run held in 2007, proceeds from the event have supported the National Council for Voluntary Organisations, an independent, non-profit group which engages in projects to meet the ever-growing needs of the community, stated a Radio Cayman press release. Funds from this year’s Grand Cayman race will also benefit the Special Needs Foundation and the Lions Club of Cayman Brac Kid’s Pantry.

The non-profit Special Needs Foundation comprises parents, educators and professionals committed to supporting children with a range of special needs across the Cayman Islands. The Kids Pantry project provides nutritious snacks to children who would otherwise go to school hungry.

Paulette Conolly-Bailey, Deputy Director for Radio Cayman, said of the event: “Every year the Breeze Fusion walk/run gets bigger and more exciting. It feels wonderful that we can raise funds to support these worthy causes while having fun and fellowship with our families and friends and the community on a whole.”

In keeping with the community spirit of the event, a number of MLAs have also come together to pledge support for the initiative by sponsoring students from their respective district schools.

The Grand Cayman race will begin at Smith’s Barcadere in South Sound and the Brac leg will start from Public Beach, with walkers setting out at 6:30am and runners at 6:45am.

The Grand Cayman registration is $20 for adults and $10 for students 16 & under and for Cayman Brac $15 for adults and $10 for students. The first 300 participants will receive goodie bags and participation medals. In addition, the first, second and third place overall male and female runners will receive a trophy, and all participants will get a chance to win door prizes.

Registration forms are available on the Radio Cayman website or people can sign up online at Cayman Active. For more information or to become a corporate sponsor or volunteer, email Radio Cayman or call 949-7799.
