Kidfest raises $16,000 for Cayman Heart Fund
(CNS Local Life): More than $16,000 was raised at Kidfest, a family fun day held Saturday, 29 June in memory of Nolan Evans, who passed away from a complex Congenital Heart Defect (CHD) at just seven months old in January last year. Parents Ailian and Sean Evans, who call themselves Team Nolan, organised the event at Pedro St James, which attracted more than 600 people.
The funds will be donated to Hart for Hearts, the paediatric arm of the Cayman Heart Fund (CHF). In the past 16 months since the passing of Nolan, his parents they have held three major fundraising events, two Kidfests and the Heart Warriors and Angels Beach Walk, raising more than $46,000 for the CHF.
Ailian Evans spoke of the significance of an event like Kidfest. “As heart parents we are beyond happy to see the fantastic support from our family, friends, volunteers, sponsors and our Cayman community,” she told CNS. “With our hard work and dedication in memory of our son we are committed to raise funds to help families with CHD babies that need financial support.”
Last month, Team Nolan partnered with Artisan Metal Works to donate a memorial bench at Health City Cayman Islands in honour of Nolan Evans and to raise awareness of CHD.
Children attending the event enjoyed such activities as musical chairs, a Zumba session, face painting and an onstage musical interaction. Adults took part in hula hoop contests and there was also a raffle draw with prizes including a smart phone and two-night staycation.
