(CNS Local Life): The National Gallery of the Cayman Islands (NGCI) is accepting applications for its 2019/2020 internship programme, which will provide a salaried yearlong training opportunity for a Caymanian graduate interested in a career in the field of museum and gallery management. Now in its 16th year, this entry-level position will introduce the intern to all aspects of the museum profession.

The intern will assist with education programmes and school tours about Cayman’s unique culture and heritage; learn about the management and business aspects of museums; as well as support the curatorial team with exhibition, events and festival development; and collections care and administration.

“This unique Internship offers a local graduate, with a passion for arts and heritage, the chance to gain an insight into the operations of a major cultural institution,” NGCI Director Natalie Urquhart said in a press release announcing the latest internship programme. “With the cultural sector steadily growing in the Cayman Islands there are increasing career opportunities in this field, and this is a wonderful way of gaining specialised experience.

“Those who have previously undertaken the internship have gone on to work in many related areas including museums and heritage sites, commercial art galleries, as well as the arts and design industries, both in and beyond Cayman.”

The internship comes under NGCI’s wider Creative Careers programme with support from the Ministry of Culture.

The NGCI Internship is a 12-month, full-time position that starts 1 September 2019, with an application deadline of 15 August.
