Record turnout for Breeze Fusion 5K
(CNS Local Life): A record number of participants came out for the 11th annual Breeze Fusion 5K Walk/Run, held 4 November at Smith’s Barcadere. More than 250 runners and walkers, from students to senior citizens took part in the charity event, organised by Radio Cayman and Breeze FM, which has become a staple on the regular 5K circuit.
Radio Cayman Deputy Director Paulette Conolly-Bailey said of the event, “After a stormy night of rain, the skies cleared and Breeze Fusion turned out to be one of the most successful events to date. I was delighted to see the amount of participants, especially the school children and their parents, teachers, guardians, even pooches.
“The corporate support and community support was awesome. Thanks to our staff, Race Caribbean, CaymanActive.com and volunteers including RCIPS, Red Cross, Leos, Lions and other individuals who worked hard to make the event go smoothly. We look forward to next year’s event.”
The event, which was first put on in 2007, has supported the National Council for Voluntary Organizations (NCVO), an independent, non-profit, charitable organisation, which engages in projects to meet the ever-growing needs of the community. Funds from this year’s Grand Cayman race also benefitted the non-profit Special Needs Foundation, which comprises parents, educators and professionals committed to supporting children with a range of special needs across the Cayman Islands.
In the community spirit surrounding the Breeze Fusion 5K Walk/Run, a number of MLAs pledged their support of students from their respective district schools – Moses Kirkconnell, McKeeva Bush, Dwayne Seymour, Kenneth Bryan, Anthony Eden, Arden McLean, Ezzard Miller and Austin Harris.
Next up is the second annual Brac Breeze leg on 25 November. Registration for that event costs $15 for adults and $10 for students, with forms available online at Radio Cayman or CaymanActive.
