World cup efforts move team up FIFA rankings
(CNS): Although the Cayman national football team had to suck up the disappointment of not making it through to the next round of the 2017 World Cup qualifiers recently, despite not losing a game in their draw against Belize, their efforts have moved the squad up the FIFA rankings. The performance of the team has pushed the Cayman Islands up fourteen places in the latest Coca Cola sponsored table.
Cayman is out of the world’s bottom five and sits at 191 in the 209 teams ranked.
When the national team faced off against an attacking Belize squad in Belmopan last month, the visitors were able to hold the hosts to a nil-nil draw after an incredible performance from man of the match and Cayman’s goalie, Ramon Sealy, who not only saved a penalty in the first few minutes but went on to make some incredible saves as Cayman came under immense pressure from Belize.
Despite another great performance during the home leg which ended in a one all score draw, Belize had the advantage of scoring one away goal and advance to the next round.
