Cayman Heart Fund donates AED to Boxing Association
(CNS Local Life): The Cayman Heart Fund (CHF) recently donated an automated external defibrillator (AED) to the Cayman Islands Boxing Association (CIBA), with which CHF is planning to hold a health-focused day called “Know Your Numbers” the end of October. At the family event, the community will be invited to CIBA’s gym for free health screening.
Tristan Wesenhagen, CIBA vice president, said the association “is delighted with the CHF’s donation which allows them to further prioritise the health and safety of their members and the public generally. Our youth programmes have grown rapidly and now the Truman Bodden Sports Complex has two AED’s at its disposal.”
CHF board member Maureen Cubbon added in a press release, “We are pleased to be partnering with CIBA to offer a fun-filled, health-focused day for the community. Knowing your numbers is crucial to overall wellness and the Cayman Heart Fund happily supports this through our many free community health-screening events throughout the year.”
Wesenhagen explained that the non-profit CIBA depends on government as well as private sponsorship. “All our youth programmes from amateur boxing to calisthenics to early-intervention programmes for at-risk youth are free of charge and we like to keep it that way. Sports should always be accessible to youth,” he said.
Dr Bella Beraha, CHF vice chairperson, said of the donation: “In alignment with our core values and mission, the CHF is proud to donate a lifesaving piece of equipment (defibrillator) to the CI Boxing Association. The boxing association does admirable work with our youth and we are pleased we can assist them in providing a safe environment where people can exercise.”
The non-profit Cayman Heart Fund is dedicated to the reduction of heart and circulatory disease, known as cardiovascular disease, which is the number one health problem in the Cayman Islands.
