Local author raises funds to prevent bullying
(CNS Local Life): Local author Paul Schreiner for the second year running raised money for the Family Resource Centre’s (FRC) anti-bullying campaign through sales of his children’s book, Rudolf discovers the Cayman Islands, over the holiday season. The book raised $3,500 for the campaign, which aims to educate the public on the harmful effects of bullying and how to prevent and stop it.
The campaign was originally founded in Canada and has been active in Cayman for a few years. “Our goal for this year was to surpass last year’s donation of $2,200,” Schreiner said. “To be able to say that we achieved that and have a chance to give $3,500 to such a worthy and important cause is amazing.”
Charmaine Miller, FRC programme coordinator, said that they are very grateful for Schreiner’s continued support of their anti-bullying campaign.
“We can’t thank Paul enough for all of his support and for donating to the campaign for the second year in a row,” she said. “This donation will be crucial in continuing and further expanding the programme this year.”
All of the profits from the more than 750 books sold throughout December and January were donated to the FRC.
“I am so grateful for all of the support the book has received from the community,” said Schreiner. “A huge thank you to everyone who went out and purchased a book or made a donation.” He also thanked Tower Marketing for promoting the book and helping to increase sales over the holidays.
Lynne Byles, Tower managing director, said that she was pleased with the amount the book was able to raise this year. “Working on this project is always a highlight of our year at Tower,” she said, “We are extremely happy that we were able to assist with improving on the numbers from last year.”
