HMCIPS offers support to the elderly
Seniors in the Bodden Town area are receiving regular cooked breakfasts thanks to an initiative from Her Majesty’s Cayman Islands Prison Service (HMCIPS). A team of prisoners and staff from HMP Northward began preparing and delivering the meals on weekdays to support older persons from Tuesday, 7 April.
Gov’t works on framework to monitor prisons
(CNS Local Life): The government is looking to set up a monitoring framework for prisons and detention centres in Cayman with a board of community members conducting site visits. The monitoring visits will be conducted by a board of community volunteers, which will fall under the Office of the Deputy Governor.
Prison officer earns top employee nod
(CNS Local Life): Prison Officer Marlon Watson, with Her Majesty’s Cayman Islands Prison Service, has been named the department’s employee of the month for May. As the officer in charge of the prison’s workshop, Watson is responsible for the overall operation and for the well-being of all inmates who take part in the programme.
Inmates give back to the community
(CNS Local Life): Her Majesty’s Cayman Islands Prison Service (HMCIPS) rolled out its new community works programme this month, as inmates hit the streets with trash bags in hand, ready to give back to the community. “We are thrilled to launch this pilot clean-up project called ‘Prison Community Work Party’,” Prison Director Neil Lavis said.
Prison Service promotes Caymanian officer
(CNS Local Life): Her Majesty’s Cayman Islands Prison Service (HMCIPS) has promoted the department’s newest Caymanian prison officer. Roxanne Walton started her career as an operational support grade officer in October 2015. After working for more than a year in that position and then understudying senior officers, Walton was selected for the promotion.
Prison Service sows goodwill with gardening help

Prison Service commemorates 35th year
(CNS): HM Cayman Islands Prison Service will mark its 35th anniversary with the first formal Cayman Islands Corrections Week set for 24-30 April. HMP Northward opened on 5 June 1981, when prison officers from the UK arrived to set up the service and train local staff.
