‘Stuff the Bus’ school supply drive begins
(CNS Local Life): The annual “Stuff the Bus” drive is returning for the fifth year, with the 2019 campaign to collect donations of school supplies kicking off Friday, 26 July and running through 17 August. Since 2015, the initiative has collected more than 27,000 items and organisers hope this year’s campaign will bring the total donated to 45,000.
Campaign sponsor Caribbean Alliance Insurance is once again partnering with Hurley’s Media and Whittaker’s Transportation to collect supplies for children from ages six to 16.
This year’s donations will go to the Department of Children and Family Services, Family Resource Centre, Cayman Islands Crisis Centre, Bonaventure Boys’ Home and Frances Bodden Children’s Home and, new for 2019, a portion of the collected items will be sent directly over to charities in Cayman Brac. In addition, the Department of Education will get some support with its roll-out of new interactive classrooms in primary schools across all three islands.
“Stuff the Bus is a great way for the community and businesses to get involved and to do some good and make an impact,” said Aleisha Lalor, Cayman Islands branch manager of Caribbean Alliance Insurance, in a press release.
“We started this event five years ago to help support underprivileged families with basic school supplies, but each year we learn more about the changing needs of students, so we try to add new components to enhance the campaign and meet those identified needs. We also get other businesses and individuals involved, so that together we can truly support kids in need in ways that are going to make an impact for them.”
During the three-week campaign, anyone who wants to donate can purchase school supplies and drop them off at the offices of Caribbean Alliance office in Alissta Towers or Hurley’s Media in Camana Bay, or in boxes at Buy Smart, Foster’s at Countryside and Cost-U-Less.
