School award named for local lawyer
(CNS Local Life): The Maples Group has sponsored an award established by George Town Primary School in honour of a former student who is now an associate at the law firm. The Alicia Thompson Award, which recognises academic and extra-curricular excellence despite challenging personal circumstance, debuted at the school’s year 6 graduation ceremony in June.
Thompson personally presented the award to inaugural winner, Samara Walters, which includes an honourary plaque and a gift certificate for Kirk Office to enable the student to purchase school supplies for the upcoming academic year. Thompson also delivered a speech at the event.
“George Town Primary School had an immensely positive impact on my education and formative years. I have very fond memories of my time there” said Thompson in a press release. “I was delighted to come back to speak to the students at the annual graduating ceremony and I hope that my story will inspire young Caymanians to work hard as a good work ethic is valued and never goes unnoticed. They should also appreciate their teachers for their commitment to giving every student a wholesome education.”
Thompson joined the Maples Group in November 2016 as an articled clerk and was admitted as an attorney-at-law in the Cayman Islands in June 2018. She is now a lawyer in the finance team.
