International Women’s Day marked
(CNS Local Life): Dozens of civil servants recognised International Women’s Day (IWD) by wearing purple T-shirts and taking a group photo on the steps of the Government Administration Building on Friday, 8 March. The photo opportunity, organised by the Family Resource Centre (FRC), was one of 20 events the organisation is holding to mark Honouring Women Month in March.
Among the crowd taking part in the annual observance were Deputy Governor Franz Manderson, in his capacity as head of the civil service; and Minister for Education, Youth, Sports, Agriculture and Lands Juliana O’Connor-Connolly, who first proposed that government workers commemorate the observance 20 years ago, stated a press release.
The theme of International Women’s Day 2019 is #BalanceforBetter. The campaign is running year-round and seeks to encourage both collective and individual commitment to achieving total gender parity in all spheres of life.
“Women make up 55 percent of the Cayman Islands Government workforce and hold key leadership positions across the civil service,” said Manderson in the press release. “As our contribution towards the empowerment and equality of women we will continue to support women in leadership, education and pay. We are committed to making the civil service a great place for women to work.”
