Miss Teen Cayman contestants get their sashes
(CNS Local Life): The five contestants taking part in the Miss Teen Cayman Islands competition were officially presented with their sponsor sashes at an event held Saturday, 27 July. The pageant, in its 39th year and being held at the Lions Centre 24 August, is themed “Sailing the High Seas”.

Gooden attends Cayman Prep and High School where she will be completing her A-levels. She aspires to become a school teacher, as well as a qualified child psychologist, stated a release from organisers. Outside of school, her passion for public speaking is reflected in her involvement with the Youth Parliament and Youthflex. Gooden has chosen for her platform girls and women empowerment.
Bodden is pursuing her associate degree at the University College of the Cayman Islands (UCCI). She served as the sports captain for many years while attending Clifton Hunter High School and competed in track and field until age 14. Her other high school achievements are serving as a prefect and as a member of the student council.
Thompson is completing her associate degree at UCCI, and then plans to pursue her undergraduate degree at a UK university. She volunteers for various community causes such as beach clean-ups, dog walking at the Cayman Islands Humane Society and helping at the Golden Age Home. Among her accomplishments, as a competitive swimmer, she was a member of the Cayman team at CARIFTA 2014 and she was named Tourism Ambassador of the Cayman Islands in 2017.
Lamie is passionate about art and hopes to become a technical architect or a lawyer. She wants to use her voice to inspire others to be better and to advocate for organisations that help with mentoring young women and girls. She is interested in travelling and enjoys singing.
Parchment is pursuing an associate degree in social studies at UCCI with the hope of furthering her education in the areas of social work and family law. In high school she was a prefect, took part in Junior Achievement, and completed the Chamber of Commerce mentoring programme. Her hobbies include playing sports such as basketball and softball, singing and volunteering at the Humane Society.
Tickets for the pageant – $40 for premium, $25 for general and $15 for children – are available through committee members and contestants, and at Funky Tangs. The cost at the gate will be higher.
