Cayman’s swimmers competing at regional event
(CNS Local Life): The Cayman Islands National Swim Team is competing at the Central American and Caribbean Swimming Championship (CCCAN) being held in Aruba, having travelled there Wednesday, 27 June. The championship takes place every other year and it has been more than five years since Cayman has sent a team.
Race for semifinals takes shape
(CNS Local Life): There are tight races for semifinal spots in both groups of the 2018 Cayman Airways Youth Cup heading into the final day of pool play at the Truman Bodden Sports Complex today (28 June). Women’s run empowers Crisis Centre
(CNS Local Life): The inaugural Women’s Empowerment 5K run, held Sunday, 10 June, raised $1,000 for the Cayman Islands Crisis Centre (CICC), a non-profit providing support and shelter to victims of domestic abuse. Patricia Muschette and Celia Hydes, members of the group Powerful Runners established the event.

U13 football tournament kicks off
(CNS Local Life): More than 180 rising football stars will showcase their skills on the pitch at the 2018 Cayman Airways Under-13 Youth Cup hosted by Academy Sports Club. The tournament, running from 25-30 June, will feature three local teams facing opposition from Jamaica and the US.
DG’s 5K Challenge raises $89k for charities
(CNS Local Lie): The 2018 DG’s 5K Challenge raised $89,000 for five charitable causes, which all focus on feeding the most vulnerable in the community. The grand total is $29,000 more than the goal Deputy Governor Franz Manderson set for the event, which was held in April.
Academy SC win Boys FA Cups
(CIFA): Academy SC’s burgeoning youth programme again paid dividends for the George Town-based club as their Boys Under 11 and Under 13 squads captured their respective FA Cup trophies Saturday, 16 June in the prestigious Cayman Islands Football Association (CIFA) competitions.
Open-water event goes swimmingly
(CNS Local Life): The open-water swim season continued recently with the annual Butterfield 800m Sea Swim, which attracted 128 competitive and non–competitive swimmers. The event, held 9 June and organised by the Cayman Islands Aquatic Sports Association (CIASA), took place at Governor’s Beach with 51 female and 77 male swimmers participating.

Bracket set for Cayman Islands Classic
(CNS Local Life): Game matchups have been finalised for the second annual Cayman Islands Classic, with eight teams competing in the basketball tournament, set for 19-21 November at the John Gray High School gymnasium. Kanuga notches another ultramarathon
(CNS Local Life): Ultramarathoner Kerri Kanuga, representing the Cayman Islands, finished first in the masters age group and fourth among female athletes at the 11th annual Keys 100, held 19-20 May 2018 in the Florida Keys. Out of the 175 athletes who started the race, 143 finished the course.

(CIFA): With the Cayman Islands Football Association (CIFA) Boys Under 11 league completed, the focus this past Saturday, 26 May, was on FA Cup first round games. Due to “unavoidable circumstances” only two of the four scheduled first round games were played but fans in attendance were treated to a spectacle of youth football.
