Red Cross shelter opening tonight
The Cayman Islands Red Cross will be opening its shelter (Huldah Avenue) at 7pm tonight to provide a safe space to the community in light of today’s earthquakes. Anyone with questions can contact the Red Cross Disaster Manager, Eddie Tinling-Miller on 326-7741.

Following the confirmation of a strong earthquake felt in the Cayman Islands today, Tuesday, Cayman Airways is advising the public that all non-essential services have been suspended for the day.
Coco Fest at Pedro St James

Swim Meet starts Friday
The annual Pete Ribbins Memorial Consolidated Water Meet takes place 17-19 January at the Lions Aquatic Centre. Hosted by the Stingray Swim Club, the three-day event features competition among swimmers ranging in age from the 6 & Under category to teenagers hoping to qualify for the Cayman Islands 2020 CARIFTA Swim Team.
Overseas scholarship application deadline approaching
The Ministry of Education, Youth, Sports, Agriculture and Lands (MEYSAL) invites all eligible Caymanians to submit applications for Overseas Scholarships for the 2020/2021 academic year before the application deadline on Friday, 31 January 2020.
Christmas trees for Mulch
The Department of Environmental Health (DEH) has placed bins for the public to drop off Christmas trees, which will be collected and mulched in the landfill. The mulch will then be taken to the Cricket Grounds next to the Farmer’s Market in George Town for public collection on Saturday, 25 January, starting at 8am.
Youth Mental Health Symposium
The Alex Panton Foundation, the charity focused on supporting the mental health of young people in the Cayman Islands, will hold its third annual Youth Mental Health Symposium on 22 February at the Ritz Carlton Grand Cayman.
Cullers must renew special licences
The RCIPS Security and Firearms Licensing Unit is reminding the public that the special firearms licences issued to cullers registered with the 2018-2019 Green Iguana Cull Project (see previous release) have now expired.
DVDL West Bay Closed Friday
The Department of Vehicle and Drivers’ Licensing (DVDL) West Bay location will be closed today, Friday 10 January, for building maintenance but will re-open tomorrow, Saturday 11 January, 9:00am to 4:00pm. The DVDL’s Crewe Road and Breakers locations will be open today for business as usual.
